Fred… You heartless turd

So, I had promised an update a few weeks ago… And a few other times, but Swtor has occupied far too much of my free time lately… Oops. Anyway, check this rad stuff out. (it’s not really all that rad unless you enjoy watching me cry…) so Fred… Fred, Fred, Fred…

So… There have been many breakthroughs as I figure out the subtleties of old shit cars and ignitions on said cars. I found out that one of my problems could be cured by opening e gap n my spark plugs… Sorta worked… I played with the timing… Kinda worked… I yelled at the truck a lot… Not much result… And I cried… Fred has no heart.

Then I realized that cutting your own custom length spark plug wires is only a good idea if you are not real dumb. And I bought new spark plug wires. The rad thing about this is that the inconsistencies in my highway performance were all gone, it was then consistently terrible. I plugged along in sadness for a bit… Looking for a way to be less sad, and then I tried something else. I bought a new set of custom spark plug wires, and new plugs (one of the old ones exploded a wee bit). This time I chose to read the instructions, buy a cutting thingy and be less terrible. After installing all this new stuff… Fred was whole again. Completely whole. Never has Fred driven this well… It was amazing.

Now, let’s skip over some minor stuff… Lack of doors, forgetting to put the roof on for rain, etc. Let’s get back to maps

So, this is the planned route I began on Monday, as I headed to visit John and Katherine for a superrad soda firing. It was such an exciting prospect, I’ve been working on some new forms and couldn’t wait to try my bears in soda once again. Now, Fred was driving better than ever before, and I was ecstatic! This was beautiful… and then…

Yeah, so the super rad dual stick shift kit my transfer case has… The shifters fell through the floor again… If you have been following Fred’s journeys you will be aware that this very problem caused me to cut a hole in the floor so I could actually tighten the shifters… Which is now covered in duct tape… I that the problem was fixed… I was wrong. So I pulled over, pulled the bolt out so it wouldn’t be lost forever, and drove on in a state od displeasure… then…

…yeah

So, in rage I had decided to stomp on it. When pulling off the shoulder onto the highway I had the pedal to the floor, and I was quite impressed with Fred’s pickup… very nice. Until the sound. As the smell of engine coolant spread through the air… I knew bad things had happened… So I pulled over again, and poped the hood. The inside of my engine compartment reminded me of the scene in Terminator 2, the dream thing, everything burned to poo… Although in my case it was engine coolant… everywhere. There was some on my windshield and some on my passenger floorboard… It was everywhere.

There was some cleaning of the bay, some tears and kicking and more tears and swearing, and then I realized that my radiator cap is cashed and everything else was fine… Other than the complete lack of coolant in my radiator…

Once I baby stepped to the nearest gas station and put some coolant in the truck, my troubles ceased, and all was rad. But it had become too late to fire so once again, Fred failed to reach his destination… So I turned home…

The end.

Just kidding

The next day the (insert every expletive you know here) wouldn’t start so I had to push it down the slope in my parking garage and jump in as it gained speed, popping the clutch in reverse. Everything seemed fine, battery must be having some voltage issues. I drove a bit and went for food with my lovely wife and decided to try again… Nothing… Poo. Burritos were eaten and I was dropped off at home by Diane to drown my sorrows on Alderaan. Then, the ultimate plum of sugarness, Jason, helped Diane and I fail at a push start. So, we dug up some cables and jumped Fred and he was fine. All is well, I drove around for a little longer, having a great time.

I love that truck. And after an extended trip I went home and celebrated my victory, on Alderaan.

The End.

I kid again.

So it started raining like a mutha the next day (yesterday) and after it kept doing that I decided that it would be a good idea to put Diane’s car on the roof so I could move Fred into the safety of the parking garage. But he was dead… As I sat in a bucket seat filled with water… Being rained on… And contemplating murder, I realized that I should do something, so I pushed him to the crest of the parking garage hill, and jumped in. The hill was not enough to start Fred in its cold state, so I turned it around with momentum, then used the rest of the hill to get momentum to pull into a parking spot on the lower level… That’s where we are now. For real this time. Fred is under cover and waiting for me to return from Austin and finish my diagnosis. It’s a brand new battery, and looks like a new starter motor, and the alternator has been running strong… But being costed in coolant may not help things… Yay!!!

Also, if anybody wants to play some Old Republic, hit up Empress Teta and talk to Lord Lynda Bear or Sea Bear. I also have characters on another server… but I’m a little more hardcore there and I really don’t want pottery people to understand the extent of my video game love…

Happy Holidays

Hello! It’s more or less Christmas! Which is rad. And just like all the other rad dudes, I’ve spent the holiday season reading comics via Comixology, and playing Skyrim. Damn… I’m exhausted now.

For a quick comic plug, Boom Studios has two books out, Irredeemable and Incorruptible, the first five issues of both are on sale for the holidays on comiXology, and if you don’t get them you will regret it. In fact, there is a wicked holiday sale, go buy all the comics!

Also, more 2 pots are now on Etsy, so the wold is a better place, and after the holidays I’ll try to post more. And I’m gonna continue to donate half the cash from sales to worldbuilders as long as you mention “worldbuilders” in a message to me! That will probably go on through Jan. 30th. The official thing ends the 31st, so you could do it through then, but… It may just go straight to heifer at that point because I may forget… Right now I’m at $85 bucks to send those lovely people, and I’d love to send more!

Also… I don’t remember… I had more things, but I went looking for a way to link to the Comixology sale in the app and got distracted and frankly… Now I just wanna level my arcane/archer/assassin/thief/dragon murdering elf, Cuddles, and together we will collect all the brooms!

P.s. my wife just made me a rad hat :

Welcome Rothfuss Fans!

I’m super excited about having my work go online to help out Worldbuilders. If you are reading this because of Pat, you completely understand the happiness I feel in my shorts right now. If anybody has any questions about my work, or process, feel free to let me know, and seabearpots@gmail.com is the best way to go about that. If the steins for world builders sell out, have no fear, I have more in my studio and feel free to contact me and we can work out a deal so that a chunk of the proceeds can still go to heifer. But don’t even think about it until the official stuff is gone! I feel like this sounds fairly silly so far, honestly I just checked my email and found out about the posting and felt that I should put something on my site in response.. But I should have probably waited till the morning and thought it through a little more… Damn…
Oh well!
-Charley

P.s. I’m the one on the left, and the lower right is the stein that I gave the man himself.

First soda firing in a looooong time.

Hello boys and girls, it’s been a bit, but I have been super busy. This week John and I fired the Austin college soda kiln, and the kiddos from Texas A&M – Commerce rolled out to fire Lynda with us. It has been nuts, but good nuts… Like peanuts… Which are apparently legumes if you want to be difficult… so don’t.

This soda firing was the first be I’ve done since I graduated from Commerce almost three years ago, and honesty I didn’t d it much then. But it is super rad, it’s like wood firing, but instead of wood ash on pots it’s soda, and instead of busting your ass through the whole firing, you just wiggle some gas valves from time to time and squirt goop into a hole. Anyway, I was pumped! Partially because I was testing out the Tree on the Hill Pottery Soda Body! And partially because any opportunity to hand up with Katherine is worth being excited about! And now I’m getting tired of writing, so let’s look at photos!

Oh snap!

Now check out this one!

Oh snap again!

Now look at the other side!

Wtf! Could it be more plastered with soda?!?

Oh snap the third! You can almost see that I spend my time carving a bear on this one!

So, now John and I officially need a soda kiln… More on that in the coming decade. Hopefully we will get the opportunity to pursue firing in the soda kilns of other potters before that time comes to be…

Oh yes, another thing! I proposed a thing to kickstarter.com, where you should go and invest in cool people, and it was accepted! So in the next weekish or month or whatever I’m gonna post my project and hopefully make monies. The basic idea is that I wanna make stoneware pots with heavy amounts of iron and awesome so the thing will be for the first production run of red stoneware pots in Lynda, and they will be special edition with a little kickstarter stamp and I will love you forever and I will make a few special things available that I don’t normally make or plan to make in large quantities ever. The money will go towards a new wheel, a load of new clay, and some things for the wood kiln, like a chainsaw, etc. I’m pretty excited to try this out, since kickstarter may have a great deal to do with the potential soda kiln project thing… But that will be later.

Also! Holy crap! I donated some steins a while back to Patrick Rothfuss‘ charity, World Builders. I was super happy he accepted them and that something I made could go toward getting a goat for someone in need, and now hey are going for sale! I don’t have any steins for sale online anymore, so if you want one, you need to go through The Tinker’s Packs. Now go do that. (unless they aren’t online yet, then you should wait until they are available and go back to the previous step)

I can’t think of anything else at the moment. I plan to put the better soda pots up on etsy tonight, so if you wanna feed me instead, you can go buy that stuff.

Later,
Charley

Creatures! And we fire Monday!

Ok, first of all… Kickstarter is pro(if you haven’t heard of it), and regardless, support this game! Creatures looks like the greatest thing in the whole world, and you should invest money in the game.

Secondly! Pots! I’ve got a firing coming! Hopefully Monday night we will light lynda up and I’ll have another round of bowls and coffee mugs to finally post on etsy, sorry the last set got weeded out real fast, so I didn’t get any online for sale.

More soon folks!
